The Messiah Lutheran Church congregation appreciates and supports the art of music in the life of the church.  Presently, the church has an adult choir, an instrumental group called the St. Cecelia Society, and a spring concert series featuring professional level musicians.

The adult choir meets on Thursday evenings at 7:30 p.m. at the church, holding rehearsals from September through the beginning of June.  All adult singers are welcome, including high school age individuals who wish to participate.  The only requirement is the ability to carry a tune.  A wonderful voice quality and the ability to read music are helpful, but definitely not required!

The St. Cecelia Society consists of instrumentalists from the intermediate level to the professional level.  The basic purpose of the group is to accompany the hymns and liturgies, and enhance the overall worship service.  The group generally meets once a month for practice, and performs at one service each month.  The St. Cecelia Society also acts as a resource for soloists and ensembles for special music offerings for some worship services.

The Messiah Lutheran Church spring concert series features three, approximately one hour long, recitals of a professional quality that are free and open to the public.  Occurring on the first Sunday evening of the months of March, April, and May at 7:00 p.m., these programs provide for a nice segue into spring.  More importantly, free will donations received at the concerts are channeled towards a worthy charitable cause.  In 2007 almost $5,000.00 was raised for Operation Walk, an organization that has provided for knee replacements in the poorest of countries.

Looking towards fall, a class in recorder playing is in the works.  This will be a relaxed and fun class for those who want to learn to read music, as well as for those already possessing some musical skills.  More details will be available over the coming months.
